Great iPod Discoveries : My Journey

Posted By Twyla on December 11, 2007 @ 5:11 pm

With all the hype and great reviews about iPods, there are very few people that don’t have one.  Up until recently I didn’t have one either, but unfortunately my portable CD player broke (no laughing please).  So, I went to the store to buy one, only to find they were not available anymore.

Not available?  I was shocked.  You see, I bought my current one back in 1996 and it had served me well.  Sure it was a little bulky, but you got used to that.  I had to ask the sales person what I should buy - I needed to have something to listen to on my daily run on the treadmill.

He suggested that I could get a "Shuffle" and get some iPod Shuffle accessories to enhance my experience.  I had to ask him what a "Shuffle" was - I had no idea.

He explained to me that it was an iPod - basically a portable music device.  All I had to do is an iPod to PC transfer, and I could put any song I wanted to on there.  That sounded good to me, so I bought one and some speakers for iPod, and was on my way.

I used the getting started guide provided by the sales clerk to get started, and it is really easy.  I should have gotten rid of my CD player earlier - this is much better.

Interesting Employment Prospects

Posted By Twyla on December 2, 2007 @ 6:38 pm

I have been looking at various employment opportunities in my area.  I haven’t decided if I really want a new job or not, but it doesn’t hurt to look.  It is good to know what is out there, and be able to see opportunities when they arise.

Now, there are your usual jobs such as restaurant help, office help, and manual labor, but those are not really for me.  I would be interested in something involving technology and money - two of my favorite things in life.

Strangely I am in luck.  It seems that a local ATM rental company is in need for salespersons to sell and rent their mobile ATM machines

I have to admit, I don’t know much about the technical aspects of an ATM, but I sure know how to use them.  But my lack of knowledge is only a search away - I will go online and do some research on mobile ATMs and learn everything I need to know.

This definitely sounds interesting, I will have to do a little more research on the company and go down there to check it out.  Maybe I have found a reason to switch jobs - we’ll have see what my searches turn up.

Getting the Internet Wherever I go

Posted By Admin on November 17, 2007 @ 7:07 pm

In this world of technology and gadgets, things can change in an instant.  The Internet can help you stay on top of these changes - so I try to stay connected whenever I can.

Now, if you are in an area where there is a wireless network, that is definitely a possibility.  I just take out my Dell laptop and the wireless card connects automatically.  Now this works okay, but I just have to remember to turn on my firewall to stop unwanted visitors.

It is not quite as easy when you are outside of a wireless network.  In these cases, you need to find an alternative way to connect tot the Internet.  I have been doing some research and I have found out that I can hook up my mobile phone to my laptop and get the Internet wherever I can get a signal.  Sure it may not be as fast as wireless or high speed, but it does the trick.

If you are unsure whether or not your phone can let your laptop connect to the Internet, check in your manual or with your dealer.  Both will be helpful and give you the answers you need.

My Four Year Old’s First Computer

Posted By Admin on November 5, 2007 @ 5:11 am

My four year old son just got his first computer complete with Internet access.  Many people think that there is something wrong with that, but in this technological age, I feel that being computer literate will give him advantages in life.

There is so much that he can do already on his own.  He can start it up and logon to his favorite free online games.  This gives him something to do with his free time besides watch television.  Most of the games he plays are educational.

He is quickly learning his way around the web and I try to use his computer as a teaching tool.  If he has a question, we go to the computer to try and find the answer.  This is also teaching him problem solving skills.  We also like to look up interesting facts about his favorite interests.  I have learned a lot about dinosaurs and he has sure absorbed a lot of that information as well.

So, until I am proved wrong, I think my son having a computer is a good choice for us.

A Look at Samsung Mobile Phones

Posted By Admin on July 6, 2007 @ 7:40 am

If you have been looking for mobile phone deals, you may have looked at the various brands available: Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Apple, LG, and Sony Ericsson.  Each of them have various offerings ranging from inexpensive to very expensive.  Today we take a quick peek at Samsung.

From sleek and sexy to smart and full of features, Samsung mobile phones have plenty to offer - and prices that can fit any budget.  With well over a dozen current phone options, it is definitely an adventure picking one out.  In my quest to find one Samsung phone that really stood out, I came across the U600.

What sets the U600 from Samsung out from the competition is the fact that it is so thin - a mere 10.9 mm.  Music player, Bluetooth, 3 Megapixel camera, and a lightweight design that is unnoticeable in your pocket are all standard.  If you have some downtime, you can also catch the local news with its’ built-in FM radio.

What this phone is lacking is a 3.5mm headphone jack - you are stuck using the proprietary headphones supplied with the phone.  Also, some users have complained about the touch sensitive keypad - it takes some time to get used to it.  Problems aside, the Samsung U600 is a good, feature packed thin phone.

Two Blogs with Different Perspectives

Posted By Admin on May 27, 2007 @ 1:49 pm

It is interesting to see different perspectives on the world. I found two blogs with different aged writers.

The first blog is a general interest blog from a student at Adison University. It is refreshing to see younger people writing about their perspectives on the world.

Misty Mountain Online is written by an older author. His riting is somewhat different than the college students perspective. Filled with interesting articles, I learned a thing or two during my stay there.

Vonage VoIP

Posted By Admin on December 18, 2006 @ 2:52 am

Things seem to just get better in some technology or internet related services. The one I am talking about is Vonage VoIP. Voip stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and is another form of communication using the internet. If you were to use Vonage, it would be down via a data network using the Internet Protocol. This would be done using the internet. There are many great features if you were to use Vonage VoIP. Such features are included in the Vonage packaged service: Dialing 911, 3 Way Calling, Caller ID with Name, Call Hunt, Call Waiting, Personalized Voicemail, Call Forwarding, Call Transfer, Caller ID Block (*67), Repeat Dialing Call Return (*69), International Call Block, Network Availability Number, Bandwidth Saver. If one were to use such a service as Vonage VoIP there is a support forum. It has close to 37,000 registered users and 94,961 as to date.
