Buying a new car is a very expensive endeavor and when you begin looking for one, it’s almost assured that you are going to need to take out a loan to do so. Even used cars which are in great condition are often still rather expensive, as car dealerships will want to make sure that they get their money’s worth out of every model which they sell. As you start looking for a new car, you should expect to spend quite a bit of money. There is another option available however, which most people don’t even realize is possible.  When you turn to government car auctions, you have the chance to get a slightly used car at a terrific price!

One reason car auctions occur is regulations on how long government facilities can keep cars, forces them to sell off their inventory. Most cars you can purchase through this sale have less than 40,000 actual miles.  You can really acquire a car at a phenomenal price this way.  Think about 10 to 50% off blue book value and that is about what you will pay for a car.

Car auctions can also come in the form of police auctions, where vehicles which were seized are being resold to try and help add to the budget of the city government. These auctions can also often result in dramatically reduced prices, largely because the starting prices of the vehicles are low and not many people usually show up for the auction. You can easily end up finding your next vehicle when you visit an auction, as these cars are usually only being sold if they are reliable.

Most government car auctions will provide a report on the car, allowing you to see the state of the vehicle before you decide to bid on it. Even if a vehicle history is not provided, you should be able to find a CARFAX report on your own, allowing you to see everything about the particular vehicle you are about to bid on. This can help you make a determination of whether this particular car is worth your time and money or not.  Most auctions will have a set period of time before the auction begins, however, when you can examine all of the cars which are going to be offered to see if there are any appealing models.

You may wish to visit a few government car auctions before you start bidding on cars.  It’s important that you find a car that you are going to be comfortable with rather than simply buying any model. Once you find a vehicle which is going to work well with your needs and will be an outstanding model, you can bid on the vehicle in the hopes of completing the sale. If you are able to win the highest bid, you can finalize the purchase of this car and soon have a new vehicle which you can rely on for all of your travel needs!
