Getting Wii Games On The Cheap

It doesn’t matter, if your buying a PS3, a XBOX 360, a PS3, a iPhone, Wii, or a Dsi. If your one of the first in line to buy one, you get to pay a little extra. It makes me wonder why people stand in those lines for just that privilege. I however tend to be a little late to the party, and get to play with the same toys, for less money. When it comes to getting cheap games for the Wii, I know just where to look.

Renting games, is one possible alternative. Your local video store likely has game rentals for a little more than the price of a DVD rental. They usually have the latest titles, and it’s cheaper than paying full price for a game you may not even like.

If your going to rent a lot of games, it would be well worth your while to find a store that rents games at a monthly fee. There are a number of online stores that do this. Usually the way it works, is you can play as many games as you want, but can only have 1 or 2 games out at a time. When you bring one back, you can take another.

Renting games this way has a few pitfalls, but they are mostly outweighed by the advantages. Having plenty of titles to choose from, is just one of them. All the money you save, could go towards the next must-have console, or handheld gaming toy that’s just around the corner. If you do find a game you really like, most companies give you the option of buying it at a reduced price.

The major deciding factor that will determine if renting games is right for you, is the frequency of time you spend playing games. If you play more than a couple of new games titles a month, then you should really look into it.

Another option for cheap Wii games, is to go the WiiWare route. A lot of people probably don’t even know about this. Nintendo doesn’t seem to plug it much. But, you can actually download games through your Wii, right onto your Wii, and play them right away. There are some top notch games like Mega Man 9 available on WiiWare. Remember, first you have to connect your Wii to your home wireless network.

Another excellent option for inexpensive games, is to buy used Wii games. You can get these either at your local games store, or online. The nice thing about shopping for used Wii games online, is that your choice of games will be exponentially larger than anywhere else. If there’s a specific game in mind, you can be pretty sure you’ll find it online. If you want another reason for buying used games, how about it’s more environmentally friendly. One of the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle).

Finally, before I go, one last little piece of advice. Don’t rush! Sit back, relax and breathe. Or as my good friend Jimmy Buffett would say “Breathe in . . . breathe out . . . move on.”. What I’m suggesting here is, wait a while after a game is released before you buy a copy. They’ll be cheaper, but just as much fun as they were on day one.
