Super Mario Galaxy was released in Japan, United States, Canada, Europe, and Australasia on November of 2007 and in Korea on September of 2008. This 3D video game was introduced by Nintendo EAD Tokyo and presented by Nintendo for Wii. It follows other 3D platformer game Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

The game is led by Mario who is a hero and his main task is to save Princess Peach from the games primary bandit, Bowser. Galaxies filled with small planets and worlds are the different stages of this game. Gravity effects and new power-ups are available each level.

Outer space is the main setting of the game. Mario moves from galaxy to galaxy to accumulate Power Stars but he needs to complete the quest and defeat all enemies. Each galaxy is composed of planets and other space objects that player will discover. This 3D platformer game uses a new physics system that acknowledge for a unique feature. However, movements to a 2-dimentional axis are limited.

Super Mario Galaxy is successful worldwide. Nintendo sold 7.66 million copies as of December 31, 2008. This 3D platformer game is the second best-selling non bundled Wii game and reached sixth best selling Nintendo-launched game for the Wii. In Japan, the game has sold 912,746 copies as of July 9, 2008 according to Famitsu and as of April 1, 2008; Super Mario Galaxy became the third best-selling video game in Canada.

This 3D platformer game is considered as the highest rated game of all time according to TopTenReview and MobyGames. Super Mario Galaxy was the excellent game for Wii based on Nintendo Power. The one and only Mario game to be on the top list.

Super Mario Galaxy received above average recognition and toward the end of 2007; the best-selling 3D platformer game was named Game of the Year by IGN, GameSpot, Nintendo Power, GameTrailers, Edge and Yahoo! Games. It also received the Adventure Game of the Year award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences at the Interactive Achievement Awards last February 7, 2008.
