Last winter my dad went into the north to cook at a mining camp. He describes it as one of the best experiences he has ever had. He loves to cook and he loves to be outdoors so he felt that he had the best of both worlds. I love to hear the stories he has to tell of his time in the north.
I remember being so surprised when I found out that he slept and cooked in canvas wall tents. I did not understand how anybody could sleep in a tent when it was that cold outside. Dad explained to me that the tents had wood stoves in them and they were as warm, if not warmer, then our house.
It was also interesting to think about a whole kitchen being set up in a tent. I guess my idea of a tent is the easy pop up ones that my family camps in every summer. It just goes to show how inexperienced I am in knowledge of things happening outside of my little bubble.
