Crash Course on iPod Video Conversion

Posted By Admin on December 28, 2007 @ 9:47 pm

While at an electronics store the other day, I decided to drop off a resume.  I really didn’t expect a phone call, but I did receive one yesterday, and I found myself at training today.  What I had not counted on was the lack of staff at the store, and their need for sales clerks.

Part of the training program today was about iPod video conversion.  Having never owned an iPod in my life, I made sure to pay attention to the lessons.  We were told that most people would ask us how to convert a DVD to iPod Nano as well as how to convert a DVD to iPod Touch.

After spending about half an hour on these topics, we touched on how to convert iPod Classic video.  Even though these iPods were no longer for sale, there were a large number of our clients that owned iPod Classics, so we needed to know about them as well.

Well, today’s lesson was thorough.  Tomorrow we will be looking at computers and digital cameras.  I will have to read up on my notes and get ready for tomorrow - I am sure it will be another long day.

New Real Estate Investing Frontiers

Posted By Admin on December 27, 2007 @ 2:37 pm

After investing in a number of income properties near my home, I felt it was time to venture abroad and find properties in another market.

Looking online, I found many potential markets, but not too many deals.  I realize that you need to wait sometimes for a good deal, but I didn’t want to leave my money in the bank too long - I am a big fan of making it work for you all the time.

I was just about to give up, when I came across a forum post about Greenville SC real estate.  I had to take a look on a map to see where it was, and then I came back to the site.  Many people mentioned that they had success with income properties in the region, and that the homes there had exceptional resale value as there is strong economic development in the area.

Looking at some realtor websites in the area, I realized I had found what I had been looking for - a new real estate investing frontier.  I will just have to take the time to crunch some numbers before I invest.

Leave the Past in the Past

Posted By Twyla on December 26, 2007 @ 4:10 pm

I have always been good at playing classic games like Mario and Sonic, but I have so much trouble getting into the new ones.  They seem to be way to technologically advanced and devoid of the simple fun that games used to be.  It also bothers me that companies seem to come out with a new system every few years, rendering the one that I was finally able to afford obsolete.  For example, I had my Atari for years…

I decided to play some online games because I was told that you could find a lot of the older ones to play.  I did find a few of the ones I had played as a child, but found them to be quite a disappointment.  It just wasn’t the same as playing on the original game console.  Either that or the games were a lot worse than I remember.

Another problem I had was actually finding the games.  It seemed that when I did a search, for every classic game I found, I got results for twenty casino games.  These were certainly not what I was looking for.  I have since decided not to go there and just have fond memories of gaming in the past.

Crushing a Prom Dream

Posted By Admin on @ 10:46 am

For as long as I can remember, my daughter has talked about getting a NYC Limo Rental to take to her Prom.  Now, I haven’t been too concerned with her desires since she has been so young for so long.  But, this past spring it was her time to have her Prom and she asked about her Limo.

I really had no idea what the rates were for a limousine, so I decided to check them out.  I did a search online for Prom Limousine New York and found many different companies to check out.  Not only did I call each company I found, but I requested a price quote as well.

As I opened the price quotes from the New York Limousine Rental services that came in my email box, I was shocked.  I had not anticipated that the prices would be out of our reach.  Whether it was that I was disillusioned or that we were not a family that was well off, my daughter was crushed when I told her we couldn’t fulfill her dream of driving in a Limo to Prom.  It was the first time in my life I had felt that I failed my children as a father.

A Grand Relocation

Posted By Twyla on December 25, 2007 @ 9:08 am

One thing I can say about Asheville real estate is that most people never regret their purchase. It is a nice community and the homes are built well, not causing a lot of problems for the owners.

I recently purchased one of the Asheville Condos and I must say that I have never had a view quite this lovely in any home I have ever lived in. I love my new home and I plan to live here until I can no longer take care of myself anymore.

I lived my whole life in the city, and when my husband passed away six months ago, I knew I was ready for a change. I heard great things about real estate for sale in Asheville, and as my dear friend had moved here, I thought it might be just the place for me as well. I certainly don’t regret it and I am having so much fun. I feel young again.

Better Than Disneyland

Posted By Twyla on December 23, 2007 @ 6:37 pm

Many people don’t think of Vegas as a great place to go on a family vacation, but I say that they are wrong. My husband had a business trip there, while the kids were out of school, so we decided to all go. His company offered vouchers for some Las Vegas hotel promotions and we could choose to stay at any on the list.

We called and booked a couple of rooms with the Treasure Island discounts we found online and found it to be a wonderful experience or both of the kids. There is not a shortage of things to do in Vegas with the kids and I expect we could go a dozen more times and not see the same thing twice.

For a couple of special nights, we were able to take advantage of some Mirage discounts I found online.  I really wanted to stay there because my parents told me stories of the trips they took there when I was a kid.

After we returned home, all the kids could talk about for weeks was our trip to Vegas.  It was definitely worth it, and I think we will travel there again.

Relief Comes in a Pill Bottle

Posted By Admin on December 22, 2007 @ 2:23 pm

As some of you know, my wife suffers from Asthma.  We have tried many different inhalers over the course of our relationship, but seem to have only provided temporary relief, not a solution.  After being in and out of hospitals on and off over the past few months, we needed some solution to relieve her asthma.

Thankfully, our doctor suggested that we try Biotek Ephedrine.  He gave us a prescription and sent us to the drug store to pick it up.  We had to stop at home on the way and I sat down at the computer to check and see what he prescribed to her.  According to what I read, many doctors prescribe Ephedrine for Asthma and there have been many successes with the drug.

After we went to buy Ephedrine, she tried it out.  Three weeks later, and she has been relieved of most of her Asthma symptoms.  I am so happy that relief comes in a pill bottle.

Many Choices when it comes to Finances

Posted By Admin on December 21, 2007 @ 5:35 pm

I can remember as a child going to the bank with my mother.  We went down twice per month to pay the bills and deposit the paychecks.  This was a fun time for me as I was interested at an early age in money, and as I grew older I wanted to learn all I could about it.

As a child, I was able to go with my mother when she applied for a home refinance loan the year our home increased in value.  We used the money to pave our driveway (originally it was gravel) and buy some new furniture in our house.  From this experience, I learned that you could take money out of your home without selling it - which is something I used later on in my investing career.

There were a couple of years that our family struggled financially when my father lost his business.  I can remember my parents fighting about money and all the phone calls from the creditors.  Eventually, a good friend of my father helped them to get a debt consolidation loan which ended up bailing us out of a precarious financial position.

I can even remember my father purchasing his first income property.  He was approved at the bank for the mortgage he needed, but he needed to come up with the down payment.  He was able to get the money he needed from a payday loans company and he has never looked back.  Their money situation is much better now, and they just purchased their twelfth rental property.

Chances are you will make many choices when it comes to your finances throughout your life.  Whether you are trying to get out of debt, or using debt constructively there will be a financial product that meets your needs.  Just talk to a professional and they can help you out.

Some Business Restructuring

Posted By Admin on December 20, 2007 @ 12:25 pm

Well I was a little worried about reading the business memo that was in my email box this morning.  You see, there have been some rumors that our company was doing a little restructuring and that there may be some job cuts.  This is not very exciting news, and it is even worse during the Christmas season.

I eventually mustered the courage to open it and read the words.  It went into detail on how the company was going to use a human resources outsourcing company to eliminate the HR department.  There were also some details about how they were going to outsource the Ecommerce services division as well.

Thankfully, I do not work for either of those departments, what a relief.  I kept reading and found out that they were going to help those employees affected by the layoffs, to get in touch with a recruitment firm, so that they could find a new job quickly.  It is really nice that they would do that instead of just throwing them on the street.

Depressed Seniors Benefit from the Internet

Posted By Twyla on @ 11:41 am

From time to time, I volunteer at a local senior’s complex.  They depend on volunteers to help out to make meals, entertain and teach classes.  I have been volunteering there for a number of years now, and I have recently been appointed to help out the seniors order their medication.

Now, I never realized that so many seniors suffer from depression.  But you would be amazed at the number of times I order Zoloft, purchase generic Prozac and get Paxil online.  It seems that every week I am ordering some sort of anti-depressant for someone.

Lately, we have installed a computer room in one of the spare suites to help “cheer up” our patrons.  Not only do we offer classes on computer use, but they also have access to the Internet.  We have found that most of those seniors that have used the computers and that suffer from depression have benefited from the use of them.

So, even though many of our seniors have depression, we are making progress.  I hope in the coming years, I could order anti-depressants maybe twice a week – that would reassure us that we are doing a good job.
