Other Places to Travel Besides Europe

Posted By Admin on November 20, 2007 @ 9:01 pm

Seems like all you ever hear about is people traveling to Europe.  Paris, Venice, and London seem to be common destinations for travelers, but do they not realize there are other wonderful places to go?

Take Brazil for example.  It is not across the world, but there are so many things to see there.  You might ask me why I have any interest in Brazil but it all comes down to the "Travel Brazil" sign that I saw in a travel agent’s window.

I went inside to speak to the travel agent, I asked about the best places in Brazil to visit – and Sao Paulo was on the top of their list.  Being the biggest city in Brazil also makes it a great place to party after the sun goes down.

So consider looking to South America for your next getaway – there is much to do and much to see.  Besides, everyone has been to Europe, but not many have made it to Brazil.  Make your trip something to talk about – go to Brazil.

Rest and Relaxation Disney Style

Posted By Admin on November 19, 2007 @ 2:56 pm

Sometimes (well almost all the time) it feels really good to get away.  Away from your work, school, and the busy lives we lead.  I just came back from one such opportunity – a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando.

Now my trip planning started a few months earlier.  I found out most of the places I was going to go see from the Disney World forum.  I happened to end up at this forum when I was searching for information about Disney World.  From what I read, I was able to plan the places I wanted to see, and find a good place to stay.

We ended up staying at one of the Disney World Resort Hotels.  The place was clean, the food was good, and the rooms were amazing.  It was perhaps the best hotel stay I have had in my life.

We had a marvelous time there for the week that we were in the area.  Price wise, the vacation was very reasonable.  Even though we are done our vacations for this year, we are considering going back next year – I quite enjoyed relaxing Disney style.

Solution for Long Term Care Expenses

Posted By Admin on @ 7:12 am

Now, if you or a loved one may need some long term care, prepare beforehand.  Sadly if you look at many blogs, you will see that the price of extended health care can easily wipe out your retirement savings, reducing your standard of life to living in poverty.

But there are precautions you can take to minimize the effects of any long term care on your finances.  Perhaps the easiest and most effective is to get an insurance policy that covers any long term health care.

In fact there are many types of long term care insurance packages available from your insurance broker.  Just like life insurance, you need the long term care insurance before you need to use it – otherwise you will not qualify.

For those of you out there that doubt that they will ever need it, consider this:  nearly three out of four Americans will need some form of long term care in their lifetime.

Do yourself and you family a favor – get some insurance to cover any long term medical care – everyone will appreciate it.

Taking Care of my Grandmother

Posted By Admin on November 17, 2007 @ 10:46 pm

My grandmother is getting old.  In fact, she is almost 83 and has been living on her own for a long time.  But, as we get older, it can be harder to take care of yourself.  She recently had an accident that resulted in a broken hip, so we have offered to allow her to come stay with us.

Her limited mobility will make it hard for her to use our stairs, so we have been looking to install stair chair lifts in our home – one to go upstairs, the other to go down.  Checking out the prices for the lifts online, I was a little concerned about the amount of money that we would have to sink into these lifts – there must be a cheaper option.

One of our friends suggested that we could maybe find a used stair lift online that would fit out needs.  After a quick search, we did manage to find a used Bruno stair lift that would fit out needs.  We also changed our mind to just getting one lift – Grandma doesn’t really need to go into the basement.

The delivery date of the lift is scheduled for next week.  I think we are going to be helping grandma pack this week – she has already given her notice for the end of the month.

Getting the Internet Wherever I go

Posted By Admin on @ 7:07 pm

In this world of technology and gadgets, things can change in an instant.  The Internet can help you stay on top of these changes – so I try to stay connected whenever I can.

Now, if you are in an area where there is a wireless network, that is definitely a possibility.  I just take out my Dell laptop and the wireless card connects automatically.  Now this works okay, but I just have to remember to turn on my firewall to stop unwanted visitors.

It is not quite as easy when you are outside of a wireless network.  In these cases, you need to find an alternative way to connect tot the Internet.  I have been doing some research and I have found out that I can hook up my mobile phone to my laptop and get the Internet wherever I can get a signal.  Sure it may not be as fast as wireless or high speed, but it does the trick.

If you are unsure whether or not your phone can let your laptop connect to the Internet, check in your manual or with your dealer.  Both will be helpful and give you the answers you need.

Untapped Real Estate Investing Market

Posted By Admin on @ 4:55 am

If you look around in the real estate investing market, you will notice one thing if you are an investor: you have a lot of competition.  Seems that everyone is a real estate investor now, and there are more instances of bidding wars for property.

What is worse than the competition is the saturation of investors in some of the more lucrative markets.  A good example is the number of investors investing in repossessed properties – it was once a lucrative market with little competition – but not anymore.

This has made the need to find another investment market more important – the pioneer investors (the first ones if you will) tend to make the most money.  So let me share a little secret – how would you like to get repossessed properties before they were repossessed?

Sure you do.  You would get the discount on the purchase price and a better return on your investment.  How do you do it?  Start a sell and rent back program.  Basically you would buy properties from homeowners that are going to have to default on their mortgage and rent it back to them.  This can also result in instant cash flow from your property as you have tenants on day one.

You should get into this untapped real estate market as fast as you can – most communities have a need for this service – and I am sure your portfolio wouldn’t mind the extra income either :)

Going to See Celine Dion

Posted By Twyla on November 15, 2007 @ 5:06 am

Now, I don’t know about you, but I am a big Celine Dion fan.  Sadly, she hasn’t performed up in Canada for a number of years, so we are going to make the big trip down to Las Vegas to go see her.

I tried to get my husband to make Las Vegas hotel reservations online, but he is not too good with a computer.  Even though we have had computers in the home for many years, he has never taken interest in them – so I guess I will have to do it myself.

Instead of just staying at one hotel while we are there, I have booked us a room at the Excalibur hotel for the first few nights, and at the Bellagio Vegas Hotel for the rest of our trip.

We still haven’t decided whether we are going to fly there or drive.  But we have a few weeks to decide what we are going to do before we go – I’ll just have to convince Steve that we should fly First class.

Smooth Running Website

Posted By Admin on November 14, 2007 @ 5:29 am

Webmasters are much like regular business owners – they just want their website (business) to run smoothly.  It is a lot less stressful when things are going okay – and the income is usually better.

It is not too hard to take the necessary steps to ensure that your website runs smoothly.  Simple things like registering your domain name at a credible registrar for example is important.  Perhaps the most essential step to having a smooth running website is securing reliable web hosting.

Your web host can make or break your site.  When the site is running smoothly and fast, things are good.  But, should your site slow down or not be available, it can become catastrophic really fast.  A really good example of catastrophe that occurs when your web host is down is people that use pay per click advertising.  In this case you will be still paying for the traffic you receive – but you will not make any money off the traffic you are receiving.  Too many minutes or hours of your website offline can ruin your business.

Protect your business and your income by using reliable web hosting.  You may pay a little more each month, but the money will be well spent, reducing the possibility of problems.  The trick is to get cheap web hosting, but not free – usually the free web hosts put their own advertising on your site and make no guarantees with respect to reliability.  When you do find a good web host, you will sleep better at night – your smooth running website will be a delight!

Futuristic MySpace Layout Using 3D Cubes

Posted By Twyla on November 13, 2007 @ 10:04 pm

I have been working on the layout for my profile for some time – but man, am I having issues.  Part of my problem is that I am not too familiar with HTML – in fact it is Greek to me.  After working on my site for awhile, I gave up and decided to go with one of those free MySpace layouts your can find on many sites.

Even though I have a canned layout, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want my site to be unique.  I have been looking at different Myspace layouts in an attempt to find features that I like and try to incorporate them into my site.

One of the coolest things I have seen is 3d image cubes – you can create your own rotating cube with pictures to show on your profile – talk about cool.  It also spices up your profile by giving it a futuristic look – and that is what I am into.  A quick search found a site that helped me to setup a 3d cube and all I had to do is cut and paste the code into my layout – and boy does it look good.

I am going to keep looking for other nifty things to put in my layout – in the end I will be the envy of all my friends – I can’t wait.

Your Ally in your Job Hunt: The Resume

Posted By Admin on November 12, 2007 @ 4:31 am

If you were to look at what gets most people the jobs they have, you would get a lot of answers: good looks, right answers, good interview skills, good luck, and others.  The funny thing is that they would miss the real reason that they got the job in the first place – it was a result of a resume.

For those of you who have a terrible time getting a job and especially have problems getting an interview, take a look at your resume.  You have to bear in mind that employers see thousands of resumes go across their desk – sometimes on a daily basis.  The trick here is to make them stop and look at yours.

If you need somewhere to start, check out some of the resume samples available online.  There are plenty of good examples of what to do and what not to do – also if you are applying for a specific type of job, you can see what resume writing tips can benefit your job hunt.

As a final test to see if you have a great resume, get your resume verified by a professional resume writer – for a nominal fee, they can tell you how to perfect your resume – almost guaranteeing you an interview.

So, take the time, learn what needs to be done and make your resume your ally.  When you do, getting a job will be too easy.
